Sukajan | Japanese Bomber Jacket

Three mannequins dressed in Japanese bomber jackets with unique designs, displayed in an exhibition with a informational sign about Sukajan jackets and their history.
Drawing of a person wearing a red and black varsity jacket with a dragon and guitar design on the back, blue jeans, and red sneakers, shown from the front and back views.
An illustrated dragon playing an electric guitar, rendered in black, orange, and green colors.

The Sukajan jacket emerged in post-war Japan through cultural exchange between American military personnel and Japanese artisans, merging Western bomber silhouettes with traditional embroidered motifs. This project reinterprets the garment through a punk lens, introducing a reversible construction, spike-studded shoulders, and a dragon embroidered across the back. The piece was developed as part of a collective studio exploration, presented alongside other student interpretations on mannequins.
